Avoid treatments with castor oil, mineral oil, bismuth, magnesium, anti-diarrheal compounds, barium enemas, and antibiotics for 7 to 10 days before the test.
The stool sample must not be contaminated with urine or water. In cases of suspected bloody diarrhea, immediately send the collected sample to the laboratory. If testing cannot be performed within 30 minutes of sample collection, the sample should be refrigerated.
For the fecal occult blood test, please follow these instructions:
- Avoid intense physical activity and refrain from consuming red meat, fish, turnips, and radishes for 48 to 72 hours before and during the stool sample collection period.
- Stop taking colchicine, aspirin, ibuprofen, corticosteroids 48 hours before the test and during the sample collection period. If you must continue these medications, consult your physician and inform the laboratory.
- If you are taking anticoagulant medications, be sure to inform the sample collection staff.
- Avoid brushing or flossing your teeth in a way that causes gum bleeding during the 48 hours before the test.
- Quickly transport the stool sample to the laboratory.
- The sample submission times are from Saturday to Wednesday before 6:00 PM and on Thursday before 3:00 PM.
