Preferably, the first and second phase sugar test should be done on the same day. (In exceptional cases, you can coordinate with the lab supervisor to do the second phase the next day).
Perform the fasting sugar test according to the procedure and normal conditions explained.
After completing the first phase sugar test, you should eat your usual daily breakfast (breakfast consumption should take no more than 15 minutes).
The two-hour sugar blood test should be done 2 hours after starting breakfast (first bite). (If you are outside the lab for breakfast, arrive 10 minutes earlier at the lab).
After breakfast, until the time of second phase blood collection, avoid any activity and walking. (During this time, do not eat any food and do not smoke cigarettes).
If you are taking sugar medications or insulin, take your medication as usual before or after breakfast. (Remember, do not take sugar medication before the first phase blood collection).
It is better to be fasting for the thyroid test.
Regarding the use or non-use of thyroid medication before the test, it is preferable to consult your doctor during the visit.
Blood collection should be done in the morning and while fasting.
If you are taking iron medication or any medication containing iron (such as multivitamins, etc.), you should stop taking the medication 3 days or 72 hours before the test, unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
If you are taking any other medication (including birth control pills), inform the blood collection staff.
It is better to collect the first morning urine after waking up. (Otherwise, urine should be retained in the bladder for at least 3 hours and the urine sample should be collected again).
Avoid excessive consumption of various fluids the night before the test.
Clean the urine exit area with water and then prepare the urine sample (preferably the midstream urine).
To collect the urine sample, at least 20 cc or half of the container should be filled.
The best sample for diagnosing urinary tract infections is the first morning sample.
Before the test, avoid excessive fluid intake.
The sample should be completely clean and free from any contamination. The urine exit area should be thoroughly washed with water and soap, and no soap residue should remain. Also, avoid contact of hands or cleaning materials with the container.
To collect the urine sample, discard the first few drops of urine ( first second) and collect the rest of the urine, at least half of the container, and send it to the lab (container should be sent within 1 hour).
For children and infants under 2 years, use sterile urine collection bags (Urine bag) according to the child's gender. These bags should not be connected to the urinary tract for more than 45 minutes, and if urination does not occur, the bag should be replaced. After collecting the urine, seal the bag and place it inside the container, then send it to the lab (container should be sent within 1 hour).
48 hours before the urine culture test, do not take antibiotics (unless instructed by the doctor).
24-hour urine is not approved for the urine culture test.
7 to 10 days before the test, avoid using castor oil, mineral oil, bismuth, magnesium, anti-diarrheal compounds, barium purification, and consuming antibiotics.
The stool sample should not be contaminated with urine or water. Send the collected sample to the laboratory immediately, especially in cases suspected of bloody diarrhea. If it is not possible to send and perform the test within a maximum of 30 minutes after collection, store the sample in a cool environment or in the refrigerator.
To examine hidden blood in the stool, the following points should be observed:
If possible, 2 to 3 days before the test and during the collection period of the stool sample, avoid heavy exercise and consuming items such as red meat, fish, turnip, and radish.
Medications such as colchicine, aspirin, ibuprofen, and cortisone should be discontinued 48 hours before the test and during the collection period of the sample.
During the 2 days before the test, avoid brushing your teeth and flossing in a way that causes gum bleeding.
The stool sample should be sent to the laboratory within a specified time (one hour).
To perform the prolactin test, you must be fasting and at least 2 hours must have passed since you woke up. Also, avoid heavy activity or exercise before the test.
24 hours before sample collection, avoid breast stimulation and any form of sexual activity, and you should have a good night's sleep the night before the test.
The patient should not have had a prostate examination within 48 to 72 hours before the test.
The patient should avoid ejaculation, sexual activity, and intense physical activity such as cycling for 48 hours before blood collection.
If a prostate biopsy is performed, blood collection should be done at least 3 weeks later.
The best time for sample collection should be in the early morning and while fasting.
The sample should be sent to the laboratory quickly (less than 1 hour).
If you use dentures, remove them, rinse your mouth, take a deep breath, and cough firmly.
As much as possible, avoid contaminating the sputum sample with saliva.
The use of mouthwash and mouth disinfectants before the test is prohibited.
Using inhalation can help in collecting the sample.
Avoid washing the affected area for at least 2 to 3 days and also do not use cream or ointment on the affected area.
